The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter

The Tale of Peter Rabbit was one of my favorite books when I was a little girl, and I still love it. The story is about Peter, a naughty little rabbit, who gets into mischief because he doesn’t obey his mother.

As she is leaving to go into town, Peter’s mother tells him and his siblings not to go down the road to Mr. McGregor’s garden. But, of course, Peter chooses not to listen to her warnings and goes down the road to Mr. McGregor’s garden anyway.

By Peter’s refusing to heed his mother’s advice, he finds himself in some rather uncomfortable and scary situations. Because he doesn’t listen, he is forced to learn the lesson of obedience the hard way.

This classic teaches children the importance of obeying their parents and the consequences if they choose not to obey. If only Peter had listened to his mother in the first place, he would never have wound up in those predicaments in Mr. McGregor’s garden.

Tiny Tidbits: The author actually had a childhood pet named “Peter Rabbit.”

This story was originally an illustrated letter written for the son of Potter’s former governess. He was sick, and she hoped to cheer him up and ward off boredom with the letter. (Resource: Wikipedia)
