Mom’s Hot Dog Chili

202 430x chili1 Moms Hot Dog Chili

When we get the chance, we like to go camping at the lake with my parents. It’s a pretty long trip for us, about four and a half hours one way, so we’re always starved and ready for dinner by the time we get there.

Well, for the past several years, it has become somewhat of a tradition for my mom to make homemade hot dog chili, and we’d have chili dogs for dinner that first night. The chili she makes is so very simple, but so very good.

Anyway, one night after our long drive our taste buds were primed for some good ole chili dogs. Mom put the chili on the table and right off we noticed that something just didn’t look right about it. Then we tasted it and it really didn’t taste right. It wasn’t horrible, but it was NOT mom’s chili.

In an effort to save time, she had grabbed a can of store bought chili and served it to us. Can you say BIG mistake? Let’s just say, she’ll never live that one down. We love to rib her about the night, because that stuff just wasn’t any good in comparison to her homemade chili.

Like I said before, it’s very simple and only has five ingredients. So, here’s the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground chuck
  • 1/2 can tomatoes
  • 1/3-1/2 cup onion
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 tsp chili powder

Directions

  1. Brown ground chuck and drain.
  2. Add other ingredients and cook about 10 minutes.

Now, how easy was that!
