The party didn’t go quite as I had planned it. Several of the girls we invited were not going to be able to come, so we ended up just having some good friends over.
We had a great time visiting with them and since their daughter is one of Brooke’s best friends, she didn’t really know the difference.
I found this fun castle cake on Howdini.com. It was a little more difficult than I had anticipated but it turned out pretty cute anyway.
I only changed a couple of things that were on the video. Instead of using stars on the tops of the cones I made flags, which I thought ended up being the perfect addition. I also didn’t put the gum balls on top of the sugar cubes.
Another treat I made was Princess wands out of rice crispy treats.
Don’t you just love them! This was actually my second attempt at making these. The first batch was a disaster.
I never make rice crispy treats and I misread the ingredients on the side of the box and ended up using twice as many marshmallows as the recipe called for. You can imagine what a stringy, sticky mess I had on my hands….literally.
Nevertheless, the wands are just rice crispy treats cut out in the shape of stars with colorful sprinkles all over them. For the sticks, I used lollipop sticks that I found at a local craft shop.
Crafts
The kids had fun playing with Royal Playdough that I made by putting fairy dust (glitter) in the mixture while I was making it. I wasn’t sure how it would turn out putting glitter in the playdough, but it worked very well. It gives it just a little shimmer and sparkle.
The girls also got to decorate their own Princess tiaras. Instead of using glue, I purchased foam stickers and rhinestones that had the sticky already on the back. This way I didn’t have to worry about getting glue on everything.
Food
On the food table, I had ham and cheese sandwiches cut in the shape of stars, chips and a fruit tray. Oh, and I made punch using this recipe, and it was so easy and absolutely delicious.
I’m kicking myself right now, because I forgot to take a picture of the food table with the food on it. Here’s what the table looked like before the food…simple and girly.
You’ll just have to imagine the fruit, punch, star sandwiches and chips. Oh well.
Although the party didn’t go as planned, Brooke had a good time and loved the cake and decorations. She was happy, and that’s what is important.
By the way, tomorrow I’ll post the party invitations I created, as well as, the labels I made for the party favor bags and Royal Playdough bags. I’ll be including the printable version also.

I know I am a little bit slow with the commenting here but this party looks amazing. I’d be delighted if someone threw me a party that looked like that so I can hardly imagine a little girls delight.
I may borrow some of these ideas for Chloe’s 4th birthday in January.

I think I did the similar cake as you. I thought it would be pretty straight forward but it got a bit tricky (I don’t do big decorated cakes by the way).
I didn’t know about the crumb coating, so that part was “interesting”. I don’t think my icing was the right consistency…so when it started dripping down…that was also “interesting” (substitute “interesting” for “frustrating” by the way). And finding a space in the fridge was also “interesting”. It was still pretty grand…and your cake looks fabulous! (We did flags too!)

Thanks! I can honestly say, I had a few “interesting” moments making the castle cake too. I did the crumb coating, but I still had a lot of crumbs. My biggest issue was that I had to store it in my freezer after it was complete. Then it started to sweat the day of the party as it thawed, which, of course, made me start to sweat. Oh yes, that was fun. I would walk by every now and then and wipe water beads off the cake. Then my doors fell off and I had to re-do them. At least by party time, I had all the kinks worked out.
