No, I didn’t get my fingers crossed up on the keyboard (at least not this time). Guten tag (goo-tehn tahg) is German for good day.
Yeah, we get around fast, don’t we? We’ve already been to Hawaii and China this summer. Now we’re speaking German. Wow!
Last week the kids and I had fun exploring Germany. My husband had lived in Germany as a child when his father was stationed there by the military. I think that made learning about the country even more interesting to the kids.
Okay, so here’s what we did for our German week….
The Fisherman and His Wife (German Fairy Tale)
Can you tell which one was colored by my four year old? She likes to get really creative with colors. I think that poor guy has a pretty severe sunburn…. 😎
- Weiner Schnitzel – I looked at two grocery stores and could not find veal, so I just used pork. It turned out delicious!
- Hot German Potato Salad – This recipe was great. I am glad though that I cut the amount of sugar in half, or it would have been way too sweet.
- Red Cabbage – Yuck! Barf! Do Not Attempt At Home!! – I found this recipe in a German cookbook from the library. Obviously, it did not turn out well at all.
- Hanzel and Gretel
- Tom Thumb and Thumbelina
- The Frog Prince
If you’re wondering where we’re getting the books and movies, the books we are checking out from the local library and, as for the movies, we are renting them from Netflix, or watching them on instant viewing.
