Sunday Devotion: The Hidden Truth
“I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you.” Psalm 119:11 ( NIV)
Having been raised in church, I have heard this verse most of my life. However, I have to ask myself am I really hiding God’s word in my heart or just merely memorizing scripture?. There is a big difference between the two.
To hide God’s word in your heart means to meditate on and study the scriptures in such a way that they change your life and the way you live. When you treasure and hide His word in your heart, it will change you into the person that God created you to be.
Not only does the word change you, but also it offers encouragement, peace, comfort, strength and joy. I know that there have been many times that situations in my life have had me down or distressed, but God would remind me of a verse and it would give me peace about my situation because I knew that He was in control.
God’s word also helps us to live the fulfilled life that He intends for us to live by teaching us how to be righteous and pure before Him. It gives us strength to resist temptations that the world puts in front of us each day.
So, whether we have only a few scriptures truly hidden in our hearts or many, we should continually strive to study the word and hide it deep within our hearts in order to live in the blessings that God has promised for us.
Prayer Time: Ask God to help you to not only read and memorize scripture but to bury it in you heart so that it can truly change your life and strengthen your relationship with Him.
