Today is an exciting day for me. I have my first guest post over at Jendi’s Journal. Jendi asked me to write a post about my camp memories. It’s called “Yes, Camp Can Be Life-changing.” Head on over and check it out.

A Visitor for Bear by Bonny Becker
Bear has a sign on his front door that states, “No Visitors Allowed.” He is certain he doesn’t want any visitors. Then, one morning a little grey mouse knocks on Bear’s front door.
Bear explains to the mouse that he is not interested in visitors and tells him to leave. However, the mouse is not so easily put off. No matter what Bear tries to do to keep the mouse out of his house, his efforts fail over and over.
Finally Bear gives up and lets the mouse come inside. After all his efforts to keep visitors away, Bear realizes that life is much better with a friend than being all alone.
We all need friends in our lives, even though sometimes we may not feel like we want them around. It’s also very important for kids to learn that friends can be found in, what might appear as, the most unlikely of people.
What would you think the chances are of a bear and a mouse becoming friends? Not very likely, I would say.

Sunday Devotion: The Reliability Factor
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;” Proverbs 3:5 (NIV)
As the kids and I climbed into my Explorer last week to make the four hour trip back home after visiting family for a couple of weeks, I began to question the reliability of my vehicle. Although it’s not extremely old, my vehicle has quite a lot of miles on it.
Even though we try to take care of our vehicle with scheduled maintenances and checkups, I still felt a little concerned. While pondering all the possible things that could go wrong, I felt the Lord ask me two simple questions. “Where is your confidence? Is it in your vehicle or in me?”
I felt a peace come over me as I realized we should never place our reliance or confidence in material things. Only in God should our complete confidence be placed.
It doesn’t matter whether you’ve just purchased a brand new vehicle with the highest reliability rating on the market. There are no guarantees it won’t break down as soon as you drive it off the lot.
We only have guarantees in the Lord. He guarantees He will be there for us if we place our sole confidence in Him.
In case you are wondering, we made it home without any incidents whatsoever. However, had something gone wrong, because I placed my reliance on God, He would have worked things out to make sure we were safe and taken care of.
One of my favorite verses in the Bible is Romans 8:28.
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” (KJV)
I have leaned on this verse many times in my life when people or things have let me down. Since we rely on God, he’s always worked things out for me and my family, even if it wasn’t the way we had envisioned. He will do the same for you also, if you put your complete confidence in Him.
Prayer Time: Ask God to show you the areas in your life that you need to rely on Him more and to help you place your confidence in Him and not material things.
